Radio Voices Session 32 12.6.7

Hola Listeners,

This show was kind of a weird one. There was a massive rain storm that destroyed the transformer that powered the transmitter right before the show. So I thought I wasn't on the air and I sat there talking with my guest, Jennifer Federico of Food Not Bombs while I played for her the music I had prepared for the night and some odd stuff we found in the Pirate Cat Radio station. I got a call that the power was back on at the transmitter about an hour or so into my show and then started the show. However, the podcast has the entire two hour segment so some songs were played twice because I didn't know they were being recorded. So the first hour of the show is pure music, then an interview with Food Not Bombs, then more music. There is some great music on this show, so download and enjoy!

You can find out more information about Food Not Bombs at http://www.foodnotbombs.net/
and Jennifer's chapter at http://www.sffnb.org/ They need all the help they can get, so pitch in and join the fight!

The Me Too music I played on this show was:
Private Idaho by The B52's
Stars & Stripes of Corruption by The Dead Kennedy's
Blue Pepper by Duke Ellington
No Children by The Mountain Goats
Myriad Harbor by The New Pornographers
???-Three random songs from the PCR Vaults
Release the Hostages by NOFX
The Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog
Monsters in the Parasol by Queens of the Stone Age
Level by The Raconteures
Cemetry Gates by The Smiths
Big Mouth Strikes Again by The Smiths
Snake Driver by Jesus and The Mary Chain
Go by Tones on Tails
I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister
Promise by The Violent Femmes
Common People by William Shatner
Seether by Veruca Salt

Radio Voices Session 23 9.27.7

Hola Listeners,

For Session 23 my guests were Josh Wilson or newsdesk.org and rapper bLEEv.

Josh discussed the founding, relevance and importance of www.newsdesk.org and how people could become reporters themselves. In these times of false media, it is more important than ever that the true citizens take the time to empower themselves with knowledge and help share what they see. The "real" news won't do it. They are far to concerned with dragging red herring over red herring. Go check out www.newsdesk.org to see how you can become involved.

My musical guest for the evening was bLEEv. We played a number of tracks from his CD and he rapped live in the studio over an instrumental track. Then we had the audience call in and name topics and he improvised raps based on these topics while I laid out the beats. You can hear more of bLEEv's music at http://www.myspace.com/bleevmusic

Radio Voices Session 19 8.30.7

Hola Listeners,

While I was outside the studio with the heroes of ArnoCorps we were talking to a motorcycle gang and making jokes. One of them told me they were drinking with Paul Addis, the man whom allegedly burnt down the man early at Burning Man and was being charged with Arson. The ironies abound. Krob, whose show follows mine was out of town at Burning Man. Nobody was in the studio, so I figured "Let's go for it!" and I unlocked the studio and interviewed Paul on the air during Krob's showtime.

You can hear this interview at
http://www.nerdnetworks.org/pcr/Stimulus-20070830.mp3

The music I played before the interview was ArnoCorps album "The Greatest Band of All Time" and after the interview, I played The Go! Team's album "Thunder! Lightning! Strike!"

Radio Voices Session 17 8.23.7

Hola Listeners,

For session 17 I was honored to feature Jiang Kou Chen, otherwise known as KC Jiang. KC has had more time practicing than I have had breathing. His is a unique story and I am proud to have him as a guest of Radio Voices.

KC was born in China. His family was rather poor and one day his mother found a harmonica while travelling to the city. His older brother played it briefly and when he grew tired of the instrument, he gave it to KC. KC played the harmonica as much as he could. His father was part of Chiang Kai-shek's military and his father, mother and himself moved to Taiwan in 1949 after Chiang defeat by Mao. They were forced to leave KC's brother in Mainland China. Years later KC moved to America where he was once again able to resume communication with his brother. In 1987 KC was able to reunite with his brother. At this time, his father had passed away.

Since KC was 5 he has played a musical instrument of one form or another. He has learned the traditional music of China, Taiwan, America and even Ireland. He is adapt at a number of instruments but prefers the harmonica and more recently, the Irish whistle. You can learn more about KC by going to his website at http://www.geocities.com/kcjmusic/

I would like to thank KC for performing so many songs live on the air. He performed traditional Chinese, American and Irish songs as well as a number of originals that KC wrote himself.

When KC wasn't performing the "me too" music I played was:
"Hail Columbia" by the Radio Voices All-Star Ensemble
"Scratch Your Name" by The Noisettes
"Anti Music Song" by The Mountain Goats
"Here I Come" by The Roots
"Microphone" by Edie Sedgewick
"True Nature" by Janes Addiction
"Don't Le Me Down" by Twisted Sister
"Servititude" by Fishbone
"Pluto" by Bjork
and
"The Radio Still Sucks" by The Ataris

The story I told was Bush Diving which was previously printed in A Multitude of Voices Volume XV and is also available currently on my myspace blog with illustrations by Matt Elton.

Radio Voices Session 16 8.16.7

Hola Listeners,

I hope you had a great week. I had been doing some thinking and I am really happy and honored to have such creative and wonderful people on my show as guests but I realized that in some ways I am using others as a crutch. Like I am afraid to present myself by myself. This radio show is a great opportunity for me (Gracias, Monkey) and I need to treat it like the opportunity that it is. I need to express my creativity without the assistance of anyone and treat my show like it is MY show.

So I decided to accept the challenge/opportunity that is offered to me, that I worked hard to get and go solo with my work with nothing but my stories, a microphone and the world as my audience.

This session, Session 16 is the first of what will take place once a month where I will have only myself to stand up, grab the mic and belt it out like I'll never have the opportunity again.

I told the story of how I formed A Multitude of Voices and what the inspiration behind everything is. I played some music that I composed. I told a story about hanging out with a striper in Florida.

It was awesome! (For me, at least).

I told the story of planting trees and what it inspired me to do but I think most of that story got cut off as I heavily bled into KRobs show time.

You can read the stories at www.altgeek.net/voices (thanks Fredo for hosting these). The copies of my album of my music are sold out but if you really enjoyed it, email me and I'll send you MP3s.

You can hear the podcast of this show by going to www.piratecatradio.com or by going to
http://www.nerdnetworks.org/pcr/RadioVoices-20070816.mp3

My guest tonight is KC Jiang, harmonicist extrodinaire and my next solo show will be September 13th. I'll play the remaining part of my CD and tell more stories.

Hear you soon,

Stormshadow

Radio Voices Session 15 8.9.7

Hola Listeners,

This last show was a blast. I had a few redneck specials with RoBro before the show (shot n' a brew) which sort of set the tone for this one. Hope I didnd't stumble over my words too much for you.

My guests for this session were Quinn DeVeaux of the blues band "The Brown Bums" and Kitty Delicious and Pixie Largewood of the pop/punk band "Sassy".

The "me-too" music I played was:
Hail Columbia by The Radio Voices All-Stars

Panic in Detroit by David Bowie

They are performing a final bay area show this Wednesday at Cato's Ale House in Piedmont this Wednesday from 6-9pm for FREE!

We listened to the entire Sassy demo. They are working on their new album and are coming up strong with shows all over the place coming up. They have a show with The Donna's on 9/15 in Long Beach and a show with The White Barrons this Thursday at Thee Parkside. They are awesome ladies. You can find out more about Sassy by going to their 'space page at http://www.myspace.com/sassytheband (Little fun fact about this show, when Sassy's demo was playing on the air, we had an impromtu dance party in the studio. It was divine!)

I inducted three new members into Chester Carlson's Army and the three of them improvised while I told the story "Camping". You can read that story at www.altgeek.net/voices

Radio Voices Session 14 8.2.7

Hola Listeners,

Hope you are doing great. This last show was fun. Perhaps I pre-partied a bit too hard for an on air appearance (thanks, RoBro). Either way, I was on the air, 20,000 miles above, crusing speed.

There was a mix up with bLeev. He didn't make it this time, but he will be back. I saw him Sunday and made up for lost time. You may witness this event at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEe6KFU1o0E

I told a couple of stories. The first was "Quality Observation". The second was "Night of The Living Drag Queens". You can read Quality Observation at www.altgeek.net/voices NoTLDQ has only been told as oral history. Enjoy!

I played a fair amount of music. Some of the songs you heard were:

Hail Columbia by The Radio Voices Playas

Radio Voices Session 13 7.26.7

Hola Listeners,

On my way to the studio I had to walk through a group of people taking turns binding up models while a bunch of other people took pictures. The models got naked and then beat and I could hear them crying out while I did my show. If this would have happened a few years ago, I would have probably would have freaked out a bit. Instead I just walked through, gently smiled (oddly enough, it was the same smile I give yuppies when I have to walk past them) and did my thing. Gotta love San Francisco.

For this session my special guest was Bethany of Medouchea. She was a guest with the band a few weeks ago and I felt she really deserved a chance to do her thing. So I asked her back a solo guest and she was kind enough to agree.

We lugged this massive old school real harp up and down like a zillion stairs and got things set up and then realized we left the tuner at its point of origin. So I played a bit of music that I have always wanted to hear on the radio while Bethany went to get her tuner.

Here is what I played:

Hail Columbia by The Radio Voices house band
Diablo Rojo by Rodrigo y Gabriela
Ready, Steady, Go by Generation X
The radio still sucks by The Ataris
Defcon by SuperSystem
Old Mand River by Count Basie
Photosynthesis by The Hot Toddies
Surfing on a Rocket by Air
Ketchup Song by Teen Idols
The Teams that meet in Caffs by Dexy's Midnight Runners
I will always love You by Dolly Parton
Caravan by Duke Ellington with Max Roach and Charles Mingus
Happiest Days of Our Lives by My Favorite

Bethany was kind enough to play 5 songs live on the air. You can email her to discuss her upcoming album on the 'space at:
http://www.myspace.com/netneynee

You can hear the pod cast at:
http://www.nerdnetworks.org/pcr/RadioVoices-20070726.mp3

You can also hear this at www.piratecatradio.com

Tune in Thursday. My scheduled guests are Sanjeev of The Worship of Silence and BLEEV, the MC of BLEEV Music. I will do some drumming while BLEEV spits hot fire live on the air. I might even tell a story or two. Yes!

I appreciate everybody who called in, including the people having sex. That was neat. Make sure you call in during my show because the previous and following shows do not support the call in format. Mine, however, call all night long! I love to hear from you. It makes it seem more like a part of the real world thing when people call.

My guests for the evening were Corpus Callosum and somebody who was pretty good at breathing.

Corpus Callosum played a number of tracks from their old album and three new unpublished songs. Two of the tracks you can hear at their myspace page and one was a Radio Voices Exclusive! Yes!

I will keep you posted on the tenative upcoming show. You can hear more of their stuff and write the band at http://www.myspace.com/corpuscallosumband
or go to their horribly out dated website (I'm one to talk) at http://www.cannedcorpuscallosum.com/

When I wasn't hearing the world pant and breath or joking around with C.C., this is what I played:
Hail Columbia by some very official people, I am sure
One Hundred Punks by Generation X
02 Pumpkin by DJ Q-Bert
Falling to Pieces by Faith No More
Election Day by Arcadia
Tyler by The Toadies
Yin Yang and the Flower Pot Man by Love & Rockets
and Psycho Killer by The Talking Heads

You can hear this pod cast at www.piratecatradio.com by clicking on Radio Voices and then 7/19/2007
or hear it hear at:
http://www.nerdnetworks.org/pcr/RadioVoices-20070719.mp3

Tune in this Thursday. I am going to have Bethany come in from Medouchea. She is going to solo on the Harp live on the air. Neat!

It was awesome to be back on the air and my guests were more fun that a barrell full of monkeys.
